SIMPLE EXPECTATIONS by Ed Hirsch
Like the setting of a thermostat, set your expectations to
succeed HIGH. In my 10+ years of continued searching to get more results with
less effort, I have discovered the one key to make it happen.
That one key, should you choose to follow where it may lead,
could ... and will be the breakthrough you've been striving to figure out for
your own personal success. That Key is that it does not matter what you want and
work hard for. Simply stated ... You get what you expect. What are your
expectations now?
I mean do you REALLY expect to succeed going the way you are
going now?
Does the path you are currently on excite you and motivate you
to jump out of bed each morning like it was your Dream Day? If is doesn't, set
the Expectation Thermostat higher and Keep it there ... forever!
Some how-to's for actual application:
You will never find a path to success as long as you have
someone on whom to lay the blame for failure--no matter how justified that blame
might be. Each conscious act of forgiveness to whoever it is you are blaming for
your failure up to this point in your life ... is a message that it is safe for
you to take the action steps necessary to succeed. As you make a habit of
forgiveness, you train yourself away from your mind's inhibition against
learning new paths.
Don't let yourself be controlled by your mistakes. They may
have wounded you in the past, but you can choose not to let them hurt you in the
future. Watch for that moment of creative insight--the *teaching moment* when
you acknowledge your power to choose to learn from your mistakes.
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of
preparation, hard work, learning from failure." --General Colin L. Powell
In my weekly articles, I have noticed that I receive the most
response from readers when I share the *dirt* about myself ... people like that
because the truth is painful and
it is hard for most to face the here and now, removing all
denial from their lives. Is that true?
My expectations are great because I have been exposed to
people who had much less going for themselves than I do, really make it big both
financially and on a personal level. The expectations are Everything because it
drives you each and every day as if your Dream is already happening (has
happened and / or will happen). I am not a millionaire, far from it. However, I
live a lifestyle of what a millionaire's personal profile looks like and
therefore Expect to become one and all that goes with it. Even if I
do not reach the financial plateau, the journey and all that
experience along the way is priceless. Rewarding is an understatement.
John Lennon wrote some pretty neat songs. One of them that
inspired me over the last (gulp) 25 years was *Working Class Hero* from 1970.
John sang that It *Was Something to Be.* I would think that It means different
things to different people.
I've Expected to BE one ever since I heard the song and I hope
you will too.
"To fulfill a dream ... to be given a chance to create,
is the meat and potatoes of life. The money is the gravy." --Bette Davis
